The bay was still quite dirty but was so much better than Saturday. It was overcast which made it look worse plus there was a moderate southerly swell hitting the island.
We got in on the northern side of the island just to the east of the pool. The visibility in the surface layer was less than a metre but better than Saturday. We descended to the sand were the visibility was probably 4 metres, again better than Saturday.
We followed the reef west, past the outboard motor and up over the shelf continuing to the slope. We went down the slope looking for pygmy pipehorses. Kim found a juvenile on one of the rocks with the pink sea tulips. It was difficult to photograph due to its size, the surge and it kept moving.
We continued further down the slope and I found a juvenile pygmy in the same area I found one on Sunday 19th. Perhaps it is the same one.
The visibility and surge got worse as we headed further down the slope. Kim found a tiny fish that looks like it could be a very small juvenile pygmy pipehorse. It is so small it is difficult to tell what it is.
We turned and headed back up the slope. I stopped at the juvenile pygmy I'd seen on the way down to get more photographs.
At the top of the slope we followed the boulders to the outboard motor and then along the sand. Kim found a tiny nudibranch on a piece of kelp. It was only 2-4 mm long and you can see the tip of her glove in one of the photos below.
We exited on the northern side of the island between the pool and the ramp. |
