As I was working Saturday and Sunday I had to do a night dive to keep my weekend run of diving going. It had been over a year since my last night dive at Camp Cove and I was excited.
I got in at the beach, I had only just descended and was still getting the camera ready when I spotted a striped pyjama squid on the sand. The depth was less than 2 metres. While I was photographing it I was mobbed by mysids and other invertebrates attracted to my lights - one of the problems with night diving at Camp Cove. I'd have to not stop for long for each critter.
I moved into deeper water and found more striped pyjama squid. I also found a southern dumpling squid. I meandered around over the sand for a while, finding many striped pyjama squid, quite a few luminous bay squid and a couple more southern dumpling squid. I also found some sea hares, a pleurobranch, a Euselenops luniceps, and a Maserati slug.
I slowly worked my way back to the beach where I got out. The dive was even better than I anticipated although I would have liked to have seen a bottletail squid and a blue-lined octopus.Ê |
