We jumped in at The Steps, descended to the sand line and turned left towards The Monument. Visibility was around 5 metres and there was very little surge. The water temperature was around 22°C.
I stayed just above the sand line looking for the grey red-fingered angler I'd seen previously and was fortunate enough to find it again. I pointed it out to the others.
We continued along the sand line and just past Block Rock I spotted Mike's black painted angler. While I was in the area Mike pointed out a Tambja verconis nudibranch on some algae.
We drifted and swam past the deep wall and in the kelp I found a small giant cuttlefish and a rock flathead. We swam on to Split Rock and I looked for the yellow White's seahorse bit couldn't find it.
We kept on and just past Split Rock I found two pygmy pipehorses on the low rock where I've seen them before. A little further on I saw another pair I have seen on previous dives. I then got to the rock with the sponge and the four pygmy pipehorses. I was only able to find three: one of the dark males, the pink female, and the cryptic female. The darker male was missing.
I swam up to the sponge covered rock where the other grey red-fingered has been and found it immediately. After taking a few photographs I headed back to the sponge with the three pygmy pipehorses. I then found another male on an adjacent rock and a pair on the next rock. I moved between the three groups for a while before heading for shallower water via the grey red-fingered angler.
I exited at the point and waited for Mike to get out. |
