Sheree and I jumped in first while Linda, Joe and Dan stayed with the boat. We swam down the anchor line to the anchor which was in the kelp right in front of the cave. Sheree moved the anchor to the rocks while I checked out the wobbegong in the hole to the left of the cave. There was a wobbegong here the first time I dived at Magic Point in 2008 and most times since. We swam to the cave where there were 8 to 12 grey nurse sharks. The eastern blue devil we've seen before was at the left end of the cave. There was a ray lying on the sand in front of the cave and a Port Jackson shark in the cave. There was a moorish idol just above the cave. After watching the sharks for a while we headed north in search of weedy seadragons and giant cuttlefish. On the way I spotted another eastern blue devil. We swam quite some ways before Sheree spotted a weedy seadragon. We turned and headed back to the cave. On the way I noticed a small giant cuttlefish sitting on the sand. I also spotted another eastern blue devil just before we arrived back at the cave. I spent a bit more time at the cave while Sheree headed back to the boat. As I approached the anchor, Linda, Joe and Dan were just coming down for their dive. I headed up the anchor line and did my safety stop. When I arrived back in the boat, Sheree was very excited because 2 whales had some quite close to the boat. They were still not far off so we watched them while we waited for the others to come back. |
