The bay looked very calm and the Sun was out. I was confident it would be a good dive. We jumped in at The Steps, descended to the sand line and turned left towards The Monument. Visibility was at least 10 metres but was probably closer tWe swam over the sand to the start of the kelp reef. We followed the reef north west. I spotted 2 weedy seadragons and a rock flathead along the way. John located his tiny painted angler and pointed it out to me. It was only around 10mm long. We continued on our way spotting 2 more weedy seadragons before we got to the seahorses. We found the larger painted angler on the rock to the left of the seahorses. It had moved since last Saturday. Both "Duncan" and "Michael" were in the sponge on the side of the rock and "Deborah" was on the sand near where she'd been last Saturday. After a bit of searching I found "Charlie" in the sponges on rock to the right. We continued on towards The Monument. On the wall we found "Christopher" in the gap between the wall and rock. I looked for "Bia" and "Fred" but could not find them. We swam along the wall and then along the reef at The Monument. I located the spot I'd last seen "Heather" but could not find her. I did find one Nembrotha purpureolineata. We kept going on to the slope where I was able to located the orange red-fingered angler, "Kris". We turned and headed back the way we'd come. I had another look for "Heather" as we swam past her location. John left me at this point as he had less air. I swam past the wall but "Christopher" had moved. I continued on to the other seahorses and found all 4 as well as the angler. I followed the reef just in from the sand line until I reached John's little angler. I wanted to make sure I could find it again. From here I started to ascend over the large boulders. Once I reached 5 metres I started my safety stop as I swam to the exit. I exited at The Steps where John was waiting. |
