It was an outgoing tide so we decided on a drift dive from The Monument to The Steps. It was a little rough so we knew that visibility wouldn't be great. We got in on the western side of the point, swam out a little before descending over the wall. We dropped to the sand and headed east to the corner with all the Carijoa colonies. We followed the corner around and I checked the slope for the angler if last seen in June. We continued along the reef towards The Steps. Just before Split Rock I looked at the rock where I saw the tiny pygmy pipehorse and sea spiders last Saturday and successfully found the pygmy pipehorse. I couldn't see the sea spiders but I did manage to capture a tiny bobbit worm in the background of some of my photos. We followed the reef to the sponge garden behind the wall where we bumped into Daniela, Ves, Dom and Robert who had got in at the beach. They continued on. John and I dropped over the wall and I had another look for the seahorses. We drifted along the sand line looking for weedy seadragons and ghostpipefishes. We found a male weedy seadragon with eggs and a female. Once we reached The Steps we ascended to Split Rock. I did my safety stop and exited at The Steps. The waves were barely lapping on the rocks at the exit. |
